Meo Camuzet Bourgogne Cote d'Or Hemisphere Nord Rouge 2018

The 2018 is the first bottling of this 'simple' Bourgogne Rouge. The wine is aged 12 to 15 months in barrel with very little new oak and then 2 to 3 months in stainless steel before bottling. According to Wine Advocate reviewer William Kelley, "The 2018 vintage has turned out brilliantly at Domaine Méo-Camuzet, delivering exquisitely balanced wines that were strikingly expressive, even demonstrative."

This is a fantastic year for generic wines,' says Jean- Nicolas Méo and this wine certainly bears him out. Made with Pinot from lower vineyards on richer soils in Vougeot and Vosne-Romanée, this is pretty, aromatic and not as ripe as some 2018s, with plenty of texture, velvety tannins and succulent wild strawberry flavours. A spicier and slightly more elegant nose consists of darker aromas that include black cherry, cassis and soft spice wisps. The rich and quite full-bodied flavors flash surprisingly good power on the robust, firm and rustic finish. This too is very good for the genre and worth your interest for an age-worthy Bourgogne.
