A brilliant beautiful glowing mid purple. The bouquet is hauntingly fine and there is such a wave of beautiful ripe fruit with a highlighted floral note. Absolutely not a massive wine but wonderfully nuanced and impeccably balanced. The fine-grained tannins scarcely poke their noses above the parapet and the acidity adds definition while being entirely folded into the fruit. Nicolas knows that they have made a great Chambertin this year. Light menthol at the finish.

The dark plum and blackberry fruit is accented with notes of smoke, spice and rose petals. The texture is velvety and very fine. It is not lacking structure, but may be the most subtle and elegant of all the Chambertins tasted. Marvellous, supremely elegant and sumptuously hedonistic. This is produced from a total of 1.6ha in two parcels that run from the bottom of the slope to the top. The fruit is harvested fully ripe but not over-ripe, is carefully sorted and fermented as 50% whole clusters after a brief cold soak. Only pumping over is used to ensure the extraction.

The 2020 Chambertin from the Rossignol family is another truly brilliant young example of the vintage. The bouquet is deep, reserved and already very complex, wafting from the glass in a mix of red plums, red and black cherries, grilled meats, dark soil tones, mustard seed, coffee bean, raw cocoa and spicy oak. On the palate the wine is pure, deep, full and sappy at the core, with stunning mineral drive, great focus and grip, ripe, firm and seamless tannins and stunning length on the perfectly balanced and tangy finish. All this beautiful wine needs is sufficient time in the cellar to blossom completely.

from two parcels of vines approximately 40 years old and a third that was originally planted in 1919 A more restrained and slightly more elegant nose grudgingly offers up its softly spicy and markedly floral infused aromas of various red berries. The delicious, intense and larger-bodied flavors exude evident minerality on the impressively persistent, youthfully austere and equally chiseled finish that displays focused power. This is very much built to repay extended cellaring so again, at least a modicum of restraint is called for.
