Domaine de la Taille Aux Loups Montlouis Sur Loire Clos Michet 2020

Jacky and Jean-Philippe Blot's Clos Michet vineyard is planted with chenin vines that range from forty to sixty years of age. The
soils here are silica and clay over the Mother Rock of hard limestone. Like all of the domaine's Montlouis bottlings, the wine
does not go through malo, is fermented with native yeasts and aged in Burgundy barrels, with one-fifth renewed each year. The 2020 Clos Michet is beautifully expressive aromatically, wafting from the glass in a mix of lime, tangerine, quince, a touch of lanolin, limestone minerality, citrus blossoms and a delicate touch of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, focused and pure, with an excellent core of pristine fruit, excellent mineral drive and cut, lovely focus and grip and a long, well-balanced and ripe finish that shows just a whisper of backend heat from the vintage's personality. This is a stellar young bottle of Montlouis that should carry its alcohol just fine for many decades.
96 pts Decanter (Feb 2022):
Clos Michet is the smaller of two adjacent clos that the Domaine de la Taille aux Loups owns in the commune of Saint Martin le Beau. The larger is the 1 2ha Clos Mosny, which is entirely enclosed by a wall. The Clos Michet has sandy soil, faces
southwest and west and the vines are at least 50 years old. The age of the barrels used are a quarter new, quarter one year, quarter two year and a quarter three years. Tasted in early February Clos Michet was richer than Rémus with thriling tension between the fruit and acidity with a very long finish. Potential to age briliantly.
