Montelena's 2017 Chardonnay is bright, focused and tightly wound, with tons of citrus peel, orchard fruit and floral character. Medium in body, with terrific energy underpinning the fruit, the 2017 is a winner. Picking early and blocking the malolactic fermentation yields a finely sculpted, nuanced Chardonnay long on class. I loved it.

Chateau Montelena Winery 蒙特萊那酒莊便是 Napa 一所大名鼎鼎的法式酒莊，早在 1882 年便開始了葡萄的栽種。而不能不提的就是 1976 年那一場在法國舉辦的巴黎品酒會了。當年在這一場加州葡萄酒 PK 法國頂級酒莊葡萄酒的比賽上，以布根地名莊 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti 為首的主辦方邀請了法國本地美酒美食界九位重量級人物，包括米其林三星主廚、侍酒師以及許多酒莊主人... 來當評審，清一色的法國評審團進行 Blind Tasting 盲測試酒比賽，藉此於來自世界各地參賽的數十款紅白酒進行排名評比。最後結果出來，這支來自加州 Chateau Montelena 的 Chardonnay 霞多麗白酒擊敗了法國波爾多及布根地的五大名莊紅白酒，這項結果讓一向自視甚高的法國評酒家們跌破眼鏡且感到無比羞愧。
