Ripe black berry and cherry liqueur-like aromas cut with plenty of earth and underbrush give way to very rich, full- bodied and seductively textured flavors. There is an abundance of dry extract that renders the otherwise firm and dusty tannins almost invisible on the serious and impressively persistent finish. This should reward up to a decade of cellar time and it will need all of it. Outstanding

A big, powerful red, sporting raspberry, cherry jam and mineral notes. Firms up as the dusty tannins gather forces on the finish. Still in a shell, but with ample sweet fruit. Bestfrom 2015 through 2028.

The 2009 Beaune Marconnets is all about understatement. It doesn't have the exuberance of some of the other wines here, but it makes up for that with its terrific overall balance. There is an element of softness to the fruit that makes the Marconnets a joy to taste right now. Crushed flowers, licorice and sweet spices linger on the finish.
